Work

Work people remember, built to pay its way.

A selection of campaigns from brands I've led and worked with: TV, brand films, social and out of home. Each one started with a clear position and a single idea.

Film and TV

Brand films and TV.

Betterment

TV

"Baby Arm." A new parent, a quiet house and a simple promise: investing made better.

Betterment

TV

"Mama." Three generations in one kitchen, and a plan for every goal, from retirement to Mom's new house.

"It's a brave Novo world." Small business banking for people who took the leap.

Television

Yahoo! HotJobs on TV.

Three Super Bowl ads in three straight years, timed to the moment job seekers make their New Year's resolutions. TV that helped make HotJobs a name people knew and trusted.

Out of home

Betterment: smarter investing is better.

Transit and street ads that made a new idea simple: automated investing, explained in one line. "Get on the smart investing track," on BART trains in San Francisco, "Smarter investing is better" on the street, and "Investing made better" on taxi tops across New York.

N26: mobile banking the world loves.

A New York campaign that owned the commute. One simple system, "Loved for" plus one clear benefit, carried across subway stations, turnstiles, train cars, buses, taxis and street kiosks, so people met the brand again and again on the way to work.

Localize: find the truth, find a home.

Apartment listings never tell you the whole story. This campaign did, in spray-paint honesty: "Never this bright." "Too loud to open windows." "Construction hell." "Elevator always broken." It made the brand's promise impossible to miss across subways, buses and taxis.

Yahoo! HotJobs: Onward. Upward.

A campaign that owned the streets of New York in one bold red, blue and yellow look, across buses, billboards and phone kiosks. Every line spoke to someone thinking about their next move: "Build a bigger tomorrow." "Welcome to the playground of the fearless." "Find the role of your life." "Destiny won't find you."

Beyond the billboards

One brand, from the taxi top to the trade show floor.

The same voice ran everywhere HotJobs showed up: on New York taxis, in a partnership with the hit TV show The Apprentice, in a movie partnership with Fox Home Entertainment that drove resume sign-ups, and on the trade show floor, where the Super Recruiters campaign spoke to the HR leaders and recruiters who paid the bills. We even made Super Recruiter action figures. And we built a celebrity career makeover team to help job seekers move up: Patricia Field, the costume designer of Sex and the City, Lauren Weisberger, author of The Devil Wears Prada, and a former White House press secretary.

Co-author

Three career books for Yahoo! HotJobs.

With Dan Finnigan, I co-wrote a series of career guides published under the Yahoo! HotJobs name, one for each stage of a working life: From Learning to Earning for new grads, Your Next Move for midcareer professionals, and Next Stop, Corner Office for managers and executives.

It was content marketing before it had a name: real, useful advice that earned trust and put the brand on bookstore shelves next to the people it wanted to help.

Founder

MeasuredUp: customers review, businesses reply, everybody wins.

I founded MeasuredUp, an early consumer review platform built on a simple idea: reviews work better when businesses can answer them. Customers wrote reviews, sent support tickets and even posted video reviews. Businesses could claim their page, reply directly and fix the problem in public.

Thousands of businesses took part, including Orbitz and Best Buy, with category sponsors such as Amazon, Best Buy and Hyundai. It was online reputation before most companies knew they needed it.

Advertising agencies

Where I learned the craft.

My career started on the agency side, as a media buyer, then planner and account lead at Chiat/Day, BBH and DiNoto Lee. I worked on brands like Absolut, Chivas Regal, Glenlivet, Patrón, Reebok, ESPN and Johnnie Walker, and learned early that great ads perform better.

And much more

The work behind the headlines.

For every TV spot and billboard on this page, there is a lot more work that builds a brand and keeps it growing every day: brand identity, digital ads, apps, websites, sales materials, research, events, content and press.
